11 December 2015 - It's now closed the 2nd edition of the Economics of Crime Prize launched by UniCredit & Universities Foundation on the occasion of the seventh Transatlantic Workshop on The Economics of Crime, which took place at the Centre for Economic Performance, London School of Economic (LSE) on 2 and 3 October, 2015. Thi event continues the series of Economics of Crime workshops in Paris (2009), Bonn (2010), Torino (2011), Rotterdam (2012), Frankfurt (2013) and Milan (2014).
Sebastian Galiani (University of Maryland) and Daniel Nagin (Carnegie Mellon University) were keynote lectures.
Workshop organisers: Laura Jaitman (IDB); Stephen Machin (UCL, CEP/LSE); Randi Hjalmarsson (University of Gothenburg, Queen Mary University of London); Olivier Marie (Maastricht University); Emily Owens (UPenn); Paolo Pinotti (Bocconi).
Linked to this workshop, UniCredit & Universities also awarded the second Economics of Crime prize to the 2 best papers presented by young researchers among those accepted for the workshop.
The winners are:
- Bryan Stuart (University of Michigan) and Evan Taylor (University of Michigan with the paper " The Effect of Social Connectedness on Crime: Evidence from the Great Migration"
- Michael Mueller-Smith (Columbia University) with the paper "The Criminal and Labor Market Impacts of Incarceration"
The winning papers will receive €2,500 each before tax.
